Sources: Iraq, Afghanistan withdrawals delayed

http://edition.cnn.com/2009/US/02/08/iraq.afghanistan/index.html

This article was published in February 8th 2009. This article is mainly about the withdrawing of U.S soldiers in Iraq and sending soldiers into Afghanistan to resolve the security situation in there. The decision of when the U.S soldiers are going to be withdrawn was delayed because Obama wanted to have more details about the risks of withdrawing and sending soldiers in. Barack Obama wanted to make sure to see other options to this problem and see which option has which risks. There were 3 withdrawal options and they were 16, 19 and 23 months and the dates 19 and 23 months were offered by the military. It was said that by the end of the year it is most likely that there will be 12 brigades instead of 14 but this information is unclear.

In addition to the withdrawal problem in Iraq, the decisions were delayed about sending troops to Afghanistan. According to one official, the official pointed out that everyone knows that the security conditions are urgent in Afghanistan. But because of strategic and risks, the decision is to be made more carefully.

I found some information very interesting because you stated how many months from now Obama can choose to withdraw the millitary, but i wonder why they only gave him set months and not a free choice.

I find this a quite interesting summary of the article because of the current state of affairs around the Middle East. As the current president of the United States is pulling out the troops then we can hope that Obama keeps his word and that he will continue his plan on pulling out the troops but if he is not reelected in four yrs then there is still a possibility that the new president that will be elected in 2012 can put troops back in iraq. This plan though could backfire because by that time the troops in iraq will be out of the country and if a new president retries to put troops back into that area of the Middle East the United nations council will have a stronger say about this secondary act.

All of this is possible and yet maybe improbable but non the less what opinion do you have on the future of the pulling out of the troops and how intent Obama is to pulling them out of iraq?
