Macbeth's Morality

Macbeth's moral conditions worsened since the three witches prophesized Macbeth and Banquo.
Before the prophecy of the witches, Macbeth have done nothing to feel guilty. The prophecy of the witches is the initiation of Macbeth's morality decreasing. After hearing the prophecy, Macbeth thought of the probability of killing the King Duncan. Macbeth's morality fell dramatically when he decided to kill Duncan for sure and also when he killed Duncan. The death of Duncan made Macbeth uncertain of the security of the position of being king. He ordered two murderers to kill Fleance and Banquo which made him more guilty of his actions since Banquo was his best friend. As plot passed, his morality fell more and more as well as him feeling more guilty.

Macbeth Double Meaning

Lady Macbeth uses double meaning words such as ‘provided for- fed or killed’, ‘business- feasting or murder’, and ‘dispatch- carrying out the welcome or killing’ because she is testing Macbeth- how he will react to the possibility of murder. Lady Macbeth wouldn’t be unsure and scared of murdering because she is so ambitious of power that she persuades Macbeth to do this action of killing King Duncan. An example of Lady Macbeth is ambitious is that she said “Leave all the rest to me” meaning she will take care of the blood etc after Macbeth kills the King meaning she is not unsure of killing Duncan but this is a persuasive tone. In addition, although Macbeth isn’t straightforward like Lady Macbeth, he still has great ambitions of being king and strangely had too much attention to the witches’ sayings compared to Banquo. Also it says in the book that Macbeth’s heart was beating hard continuously which is saying that he has in his mind at least a bit of thought of killing Duncan before he passes the throne on to young Malcolm. So, since it doesn’t make sense that Lady Macbeth is scared and unsure of murdering Duncan and Macbeth isn’t ambitious, this double meanings show that Lady Macbeth was testing Macbeth what his opinion on this plan of murdering King Duncan is.

Letter from Captain

Dear love,

Unfortunately my love, I have dyed my armor with blood during the battle against Macdonald

and his beastly troops but I'm fine and yet, we- I shall say Macbeth, managed to slay one by one

down until there was nothing but the bodies of the Norwegian remaining. The fortunate out of

the unfortunate is that brave Macbeth with his mighty brandished steel, carved his way through

until he met Macdonald where he managed to shove his head on a stick upon the bloody

battlefield. Sorry my love, I digressed a for a while but Macbeth's bravery can be ignored by no

men. My bloody armor is now furbished along with my deep wounds and my guts which were

poured out of my body are back in. I must ask, how is life back there. I fainted after the return

from the battlement and now I am about to faint because I am dehydrating because of the lack

of your love. But I will be better- I will be on my way down there about the same time you open

my love full letter.

I will see you soon my loveth.

From your love

What is important when you adapt a book? (Film)

What is important when you adapt a book? (Film)

- Sound effect/image(scenes) which fits the descriptive parts in the book

- Try to stick to the plot as much as possible

- Must include all major points from the book in the film

- Good character casting and effectively introducing all characters

When you adapt a book, it is important to stick to the plot as much as possible because if the film is not similar to the plot on the book then the film can miss some important points. For instance, in Lord of the Flies color movie, there is a pilot’s appearance which there isn’t in the book. In addition, all the major points in the book should be included in the film. For example, in Lord of the Flies the major points would be Lord of the Flies, and the beast etc. Also, when you adapt a book, it is important to have effective sound effects and images (scenes) which fit the descriptive parts in the book. In Lord of the Flies, at the start of the chapter, there are times when Golding just descriptively explains the setting. In order to make a good film, it is crucial to express the setting according to the book. Lastly, good character casting and effectively introducing all characters is very important. If character casting is not well done, then it won’t be as much as parallel to the book as it is when you cast characters well. Also if the characters are not introduced properly, then there might be confusion throughout the whole movie.

Intergrating Quotes in Lord of the Flies

Piggy's last day of life on the island was full of conflicts which made his day miserable and it could be considered his worst day even if he had not met his death. On the last day of Piggy's life on the island, he gets his glasses stolen by the savages. There is a fight in Ralph and his friends shelter and the consequence was that Piggy gets his glass both broken and stolen by Jack. After the fight, Piggy, holding the conch, goes to Jack to receive his glasses back. The result was that instead of Piggy receiving his glasses, he gets hit by a rock rolled down the cliff by Roger. Piggy's death contributes to the symbolism of the boy's descent toward savagery because no one from Jack's tribe felt guilty about Piggy's death. His death shows that Jack's tribe are no more civilized and they have no more conscience in them and this is shown by Jack when he said, "See? See? That's what you'll get! I meant that! There isn't a tribe for you any more! The conch is gone------" page 223. Jack's words supports the idea that Piggy's death made the savages have no more conscience in them and made them more monstrous.

Letter: Piggy

Dear mother and father,

I wonder how you are doing in Britain. I am doing fine except for the fact that I am confined on an island where I have no idea where it is. Other students who are confined in the island with me think they will be rescued very soon but I doubt it. No one knows that we are in this island and I even doubt the point of writing this letter. I fear something bad will happen if we stay in this island longer because the students here are really stupid and are not organized at all. They tried to burn this whole place without even trying to figure out how we are going to supply food and shelter. Also the leader Ralph, I am relieved that he is the leader instead of the rampage and violent Jack but he is very not organized. Currently we lost one of our group members because Ralph didn’t keep track of the group. I think no one tries to listen to me but I’ve got to take charge and try to sort out the group but the group members (especially Jack) never gives me the conch and even if I have it, they never listen to me. They even took my glasses away trying to make fire. My patience is running out here mother and father. What should I do?
…. Anyways, I talked too much about myself. Are you doing alright in Britain? I hope you are doing alright.

Writing a purposeless letter,

From Piggy

Sources: Iraq, Afghanistan withdrawals delayed

http://edition.cnn.com/2009/US/02/08/iraq.afghanistan/index.html

This article was published in February 8th 2009. This article is mainly about the withdrawing of U.S soldiers in Iraq and sending soldiers into Afghanistan to resolve the security situation in there. The decision of when the U.S soldiers are going to be withdrawn was delayed because Obama wanted to have more details about the risks of withdrawing and sending soldiers in. Barack Obama wanted to make sure to see other options to this problem and see which option has which risks. There were 3 withdrawal options and they were 16, 19 and 23 months and the dates 19 and 23 months were offered by the military. It was said that by the end of the year it is most likely that there will be 12 brigades instead of 14 but this information is unclear.

In addition to the withdrawal problem in Iraq, the decisions were delayed about sending troops to Afghanistan. According to one official, the official pointed out that everyone knows that the security conditions are urgent in Afghanistan. But because of strategic and risks, the decision is to be made more carefully.

Using Comic Terms and Concepts: Pride of Baghdad

Page 103

Layout

Panel: This panel consists of 3 frames covering the whole page. The panel is about Fajer the bear looking at the horses galloping towards him and being frightened. Ali is the one who made the horses run towards Fajer.

Frames: All of the three frames are a rectangular shape and the top one is the biggest, bottom one the second biggest and the one in the middle is the smallest. There aren’t any overlaps in the frame.

Gutter: There is equal space between the frames however for the bottom two frames; there is space on the side which isn’t equal to the top frame.

Bleed: There are no images which extend beyond the edge of the page.

Foreground, mid-ground and back ground:
For the first frame in the foreground, we can see Ali chasing/ frightening the horses to make them gallop towards Fajer. In the mid-ground, we see the horses running away and the little stones give an effect to the fact that the horses are running away. In the background, we can know the time. We see that the color of the sky is yellow and orange which shows it is about sunset.

Additionally, in the second frame in the foreground, we see the back of Fajer the bear. Also in the mid-ground we see the horses galloping straight towards Fajer and as said before the little stones flying up give that effect. In the background, we can see smoke coming up which shows the continuation of bombing.

Finally, in the third and last frame in the foreground, we can see Fajer surprised and knows that something bad is going to happen or he is going to die. There is particularly no mid-ground and the background is just one color red. This might resemble the fact that the next scene is going to involve blood.

Graphic Weight:
For the first frame on this panel, we can see that there is most graphic weight on Ali the baby lion because first of all, he is the biggest in the picture which makes him the subject. Also, since Ali says something, it draws the attention to him. Finally with the colors, Ali has a different color to all the horses which makes it stand out.

In addition, with the second frame, there is most graphic weight on Fajer the bear. All the mid-ground and background consists of bright colors such as orange, yellow and white. However, the only dark thing on this frame is Fajer the bear which makes it gain attention.

In the final frame, there is most graphic weight on Fajer like in the second frame. A dark colored bear with a red background shows that the subject in this specific frame is Fajer. Since the bear has a darker and a deeper color than the red, Fajer is the focus in the frame.

Figures: None of the two are related to this panel.

Text

Captions: There are no captions in this panel.

Speech balloons: This could be an external dialogue or an internal dialogue. It could be an external dialogue because there are exclamation marks in this panel and also it looks like the bear Fajer is shouting at the lions. However, it could be an internal dialogue because of the shape of the speech bubble. It is different to when Ali speaks. Also it could be him murmuring himself.

Special-effects lettering: There were two words in this panel which were bolded and they are tongues and cavalry and this is to emphasis the words. And it could have been bolded because it is the important word in that specific text. It is to draw attention to the words but there were no words which reinforced the impact of words.

OPTIC- Pride of Baghdad

OPTIC

O: This is the part when Fajer the bear fights Zill the male lion and gets its nose ripped off by Zill and falls out of the palace to the ground. Then, the horses which Ali the baby lion chased runs over the bear and kills it. After this scene, they see the horizon and along with the view of the horizon, they get shot by an American soldier and meet their death. First, Zill the lion dies and after that Safa tells the other two lions to run away and gets shot by pretending/trying to attack the American soldiers. Right after Safa dies, Ali and Noor gets shot too by the Americans.

P: This frame shows when the bear Fajer is getting stomped by the horses which were intending to run away from the baby lion Ali. In terms of color, I see that since the horse it white it shows pureness and peace and that the bear is black which shows evil. So, this scene is like seeing peace and pure stomping and winning over the evil. Also it shows that lots of weak but pure beings and beat a single strong but evil being.

T: There is no text in this specific frame.

I: Since there is no text, there is no relationship between the text and the image. The image itself could have been a message. As said above, the message might be the pureness and peace stomping and getting rid of the dark and evil. Also, it might be a message saying lots of weak ‘good’ can win over the strong ‘bad’. I think this part is one of the climax parts according to the plot because this part is when the evil dies which is considered a climax in most stories. In one’s opinion, the other climax is when the lions are killed and the soldier said that they are not wild and that they are free.

C: To sum up, this frame is when the two female lions went into the palace and met this big bear called Fajer and tried to kill him but failed. The consequences were that Safa became blind completely. Then, Zill appeared and ripped this nose off and pushed him out of the palace onto the ground. After that Ali chased the horses towards where Fajer was and the horses stomped over Fajer which caused him to die. The he was getting stomped was the frame and in that frame though there was no picture it was telling a message that pure and peace wins the evil and lots of weak, pure and peaceful beings beats the one strong and evil being.

'One Art' Analysis Essay

The Villanelle ‘One art’ written by Elizabeth Bishop includes many stylistic elements and has deeper meanings than first noticed. Elizabeth Bishop had a harsh life when she was young. She lost her father when she was 8 months old and her mother was mentally ill in 1916. Bishop’s mother died in 1934 and Elizabeth Bishop used to write many writings about the time of her mother’s struggles. During her life as an American poet, she wrote many poems and short stories and ‘One Art’ is one of them. There are many parts of the poem to analyze and they are the purpose, language/format, and the meaning of the poem.

When someone writes any form of writing, there is always a meaning to it. So, there would be a meaning to ‘One Art’ written by Elizabeth Bishop. In one’s opinion, I think that this poem has two meanings to it. First of all, the first meaning might be that the speaker is trying to tell the audience of the poem how much she loves the ‘you’ in the poem. The line “Even losing you (the joking voice, a gesture I love)” shows that. In addition in most poems, the first stanza and the last stanza are the places where the writer in makes his/her point. This fact shows that one of the points she wanted to make is to show how much she loves the ‘you’ the poem. Furthermore, the writer could have been trying to say if somebody loses something, that person might lose a bigger thing and wouldn’t be aware of it. The two lines “The art of losing isn’t hard to master;” and “to be lost that their loss is no disaster” shows the point which I think the writer made.

Not only does the meaning of the poem take great part in analyzing poetry but also the use of language is very important. The poem ‘One Art’ has a very unique tone. The poem is not a happy or a funny poem but it is a depressive and a negative poem. However, the tone that the writer used is a sarcastic tone. The poem doesn’t sound serious or depressing but it is more sarcastic. As said before, ‘One Art’ is a villanelle. A villanelle is a poem which consists 19 lines and it has 6 stanzas in total; the first 5 stanzas have 3 lines and the last stanza has 4 lines. The rhymes are repeated according to the refrains. The first line of the first stanza is repeated as the last line of the second and fourth stanzas. Like any other poems, this poem has also used poetic language such as enjambment, simile, image, and metaphors. Enjambment is used throughout the whole poem. Both image and metaphor are used at the same time. For example, on the second last stanza, it said “I lost two cities…” We don’t lose cities or continents it is a metaphor for something and also it is an image as we can picture the writer losing all these objects.

It was said that when someone writes any form of writing, there is a meaning to it. Similar to that line above, when someone writes any form of writing, there has to be an audience, the writer, and a purpose of writing. So, in the poem ‘One Art’ written by Bishop, there has to be an audience, the speaker and a purpose. In one’s opinion, I think the speaker is Bishop herself and the audience is her dead mother. Bishop’s mother died in 1934 when she was young so she used to write a lot of pieces about her mother. I think that this poem is also one of those pieces. The purpose of this poem could be that she is missing her mother and wants her back. In addition, Bishop showed in the poem how much she loved her mother saying even though I lose these (door keys, mother’s watch, three loved houses, two cities, two rivers and a continent), I can’t lose you.

In conclusion, there are in a poem, there are three parts to analyze and they are the purpose, writer and audience, the meaning of the poem and the language and the format of the poem. In this villanelle ‘One Art’ written by Elizabeth Bishop, one’s opinion was that this could be showing love to somebody and that somebody could be Bishop’s mother and that this poem made lots of use of image, enjambment, rhyme, simile and metaphors.

Lamb to the Slaughter

Analyzing

5. The fact that Mary Maloney wants to do something for his tired and depressed looking husband and the fact that she knows when Patrick Maloney was going to come shows that she actually had respect for him and loved him. Also the reaction of Mary Maloney when her husband told her that his leaving her also showed how shocking it was for her and how much she loved him. There were phrases such as 'almost as a sunbather feels the sun' and 'she couldn’t feel her feet touching the floor'

6. Patrick Maloney was going to tell his wife that he is going to leave her. This might be because Patrick is in a love affair with another woman. Since Patrick Maloney mentioned words such as "I'll give you the money…" and " I wouldn't be good for my job", he is trying to divorce.

7. The part of this book when Mary Maloney listens to the conversation that 4 policemen are eating the murder weapon or the leg of lamb is very ironic. The policemen were supposed to find the murder weapon instead they were eating the weapon and getting rid of it.

Extending

8. Personally, I find Mary's calmness and care in working out her alibi after the crime is believable because since Mary Maloney was so acting well when she went to the grocer, it made the policemen believe that she could have never done the crime. After the detective went to the grocer, he believed that it was impossible that she committed the crime because the grocer seeing how happy she was to give Patrick Maloney a good supper.
